First Eucharist Information for Holy Angels Parish:
A child needs to have completed Level One of the Religious Education Program, either through Sandusky Central Catholic School (SCCS) or through Parish School of Religion (PSR). Usually a child does this in grade one.
A child is accepted in the Sacramental Program (Level Two) for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist after completing Level One, which is usually in grade two. This year of Sacramental preparation for these two sacraments, is a very important one for your child, as well as for your entire family. Besides catechetical instruction for your child, there are parent meetings and family retreats in preparation for the important days of each sacrament. This is the only time that a person prepares to encounter Jesus in two sacraments in the same year! It is also crucial that your family makes a commitment to regular WEEKLY attendance at Sunday Mass, if you are not already doing this. Does it make any sense to have your child make his/her FIRST Holy Communion if s/he is never brought to Sunday Mass or attends rarely? First Communion means making a commitment to receiving Jesus in the Sacrament every Sunday thereafter for the rest of one’s life. We know your child looks up to you for example, too, so let’s not give mixed messages.
