Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an international religious formation program that has been in existence for over 40 years. Holy Angels offers the program for Level I, which is for children ages 3-6. It is Montessori based in method of instruction. The Good Shepherd Program is rooted in the Bible, the liturgy of the church, and the educational principles of Maria Montessori. Children gather in an “atrium,” a room prepared for them, which contains simple yet beautiful materials that they use for learning and growing. The Program runs from mid-September until Pentecost, which is usually in May.

A Sunday session is 1 and ˝ hours long, from 10:15 am until 11:45 am. This allows parents to attend the 10:30 am Sunday Liturgy while your child is attending the Good Shepherd Program.

Three catechists attended 90 hour training over a 2-year period to be certified as a catechist. If you wish to learn more about this program you can visit the National website at www.cgsusa.org.

Unfortunately we have room for a maximum of 20 children from ages 3 to 6, so we will accept children as their registration forms are returned until we have a full class. (We will take only six year olds who are entering Kindergarten.)

Before the sessions begin, we offer parents an Information Session, while the children attend a small group orientation session. During this time you will be able to have a tour of the Atrium. This room is located in the school section of our buildings. You would go through the gym, up the ramp and straight down the hallway to room 107. These sessions usually happen in August and the early part of September.
